Add Patch¶
Introduction¶
The Add Patch tool is used to close or “patch” open regions in imported geometry. This is often part of a geometry clean-up workflow, ensuring that the model is watertight before meshing and simulation.
To define a patch, users define a planar surface from a network of connected edges along a static body surface. The connected edges must all occupy the same plane. Edges can be selected one at a time, sequentially, or by using a mouse-lasso to select multiple segments at once. Once the selected edges form a closed, manifold curve, the GUI automatically generates a surface patch that spans the enclosed boundary.
Note
The patch tool cannot create non-planar surfaces. As such, all connected edges used to define the patch must occupy the same plane.
The generated surface is then added as a child geometry under the static-body parent. In addition to sealing the geometry, the patch also serves as a boundary for the flood fill algorithm used in volume detection.
Access¶
When you select Add Patch on the Static Body context-specific toolbar, you will be able to select the edges that form a closed contour and select OK to accept the patch. In the example below, the edge of a pipe is closed to prevent fluid from leaving the vessel.
Location¶
The Add Patch from Edges tool is found on the following context-specific toolbars:
